Private_Ale I was wearing a faux leather jacket in May. May in Southern California. 95 degrees. But it taught me that I needed to be prepared.

On the road, you’re gonna get heat and rain. I love riding in the rain. Invest in some “Frog Troggs”. Cycle gear has them cheap! They’re amazing, and I have no idea how they work. They’re paper thin and breathable yet keep the water out.

Also, get a full face helmet with an ECE certification, DOT only is trash. I recommend TORC helmets.

smilemani I’ll invest in all of that down the line. It’s too late now. However I’ll definitely invest in those things after the course 😝

I do have a DOT helmet, full fingered gloves, my work jeans and boots, and a long sleeve rash guard shirt. The helmet isn’t full face, but that was a conscious choice because I didn’t want to be uncomfortable and anxious during the course.

Private_Ale awesome! See, I hated full face helmets. I also wanted to be cool like my buddies with their half. But! My loving wife made me get minimum ¾. Then I discovered those TORC T-1 helmets. When I come to a stop, I lift off the visor. Once I’m up to speed, visor comes down.

But your gear sounds great! Definitely can add slowly as you get more and more into it.

Then after trying on a full face, I decided to get the cheapest ½ helmet just so that I’m comfy and don’t get overly anxious during the course. I’ll buy a real one after I pass. 🤪

All I did was watch a 45 minute video and drive around the parking lot…. and a helmet was optional 😮

And I did it in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt

Well I passed the course and got my endorsement.

My friend wasn’t so lucky as he was booted out after the 3rd exercise on the first day … lol

We learned on Yamaha V-Star 250cc. Aside from a very small friction zone, it’s a nice little bike.

Private_Ale my first bike? I little Yamaha 80 dirt bike when I was 8. Then my first street bike was actually my Harley.

I’ve been stalking Facebook marketplace for bikes this past week. Would you say age or mileage is the bigger factor. Probably mileage, no?

I seen a 2006 Honda rebel with 1800 for $2200 and I also seen a 2008 Harley Sportster with 3300 for $4000.

Private_Ale they are both great bikes. But you’re probably going to grow out of them pretty quick. Which is fine, you’ll probably sell the bike for what you paid for it anyhow.

The Harley will probably keep you satisfied a little more because I’m guessing it’s an 883. And the rebel is a 250.

Honestly, I’d never get in the hwy on a 250.
